H Cup Win for Horsham U10's B squad

H Cup Win for Horsham U10's B squad

FIONA ROBISON27 Feb 2012 - 08:13

Horsham travelled to Hastings RFC to find fantastic weather for playing rugby.
Their first game found Horsham still sleeping and were surprised by the aggressive and ferocious rucking of Haywards Heath, who dominated for much of the first half. The second half saw Horsham wake up and begin to put pressure on Heath in the scrum and maul. They were unable to convert this to points and an unforced error saw Heath score a well worked try for the only score in the game.
Second up came Hove and some strong running from Andreas Madum and some aggressive scrummaging and mauling from captain Jake Penticost, Tom Bicknell and Jamie Ockendon twice produced turn over for the backs of Lewis Hillicks and Ben and Henry Pointer to link up and dot the ball down over the line for a well-deserved 2-0 win.
Next was the second game against Haywards Heath which started as a ferocious affair with the green and whites dominating the scrum and maul and Heath dominating the ruck. Ball was turned over many times, with some great work in the loose from Sam Faulkner and Ben Rooney. Both teams managed to score from turnover ball leaving the game a hard fought draw.
After a short break Hove came for the second time, The green and whites again dominated up front but again conceded too much turnover ball, the game saw some strong running and tackling by William Day. The highlight of the game saw nimble footed scrum half, Nathan Sutlieff throw himself into a superb tackle, (with little thought of his own wellbeing!), at the biggest Boy on the park who was on a rampage through the Horsham ranks. More strong running from man of the tournament Andreas and Lewis saw the Pointer brothers touch down again and run out 4-2 victors.
The Final saw Horsham take on Haywards Heath again in a very evenly matched game. Much like its predecessor Horsham dominated scrum and maul and Heath dominated at the breakdown, the game saw a lot of turnover ball to both sides. Haywards Heath began to tire and Horsham sensing this put on a lot of pressure deep in their opponents territory forcing three penalties in quick succession in the red zone. The referee having warned Heath was forced to give a penalty try for a high tackle, with less than two minutes left on the clock. Leaving Horsham as winners of The H Cup B Festival.
